Verification: to check your procedure certifications, or to show a nurse,

  • Parkland:
    • Go To the Parkland IntraNet Home Page

    • Click the link "GME Residents/Fellows - Qualifications"
  • CUH:
    • Go to the Clinica Portal home page
    • Find the link: Resident Procedure Certification - MedHub
  • This will take them to a Medhub page. Search your name.  You will find the procedures you are certified for.
  • You may review the Program Supervision Grid link for details on each level of supervision
    • Level 3 / 3A = certified to perform procedure without direct supervision AND can directly supervise resident who is not certified (i.e. Level 1).

If the patient's primary nurse has questions about your certification status please kindly ask them to show you what source they are using to ensure they followed the correct link. If there is still confusion, please notify your attending and/or site Chief for guidance.

Logs

  • All residents must complete their procedure log on Medhub and update the procedures on a regular basis to unsure that your supervision capabilities are updated when you're appropriately qualified to supervise. If you don't document the procedure in MedHub, you won't be able to supervise the procedure regardless of how many you have performed.
  • Please log each procedure within 1 month of completing it.
  • If you are not certified to do the procedure without direct supervision, you must include a certified supervisor to receive electronic signature.  If you are certified, you do not need to include a supervisor.
  • After completing the minimum supervision requirements, you should still log all procedures you do. Knowing the exact numbers of procedures you performed is useful when you apply to fellowships and jobs.
  • Because residents pursue lots of different career path, there is no minimum number of any procedure that you need to graduate. You're encouraged to seek out procedural opportunities regardless of the specialty you pursue.
  • Residents are no longer automatically certified to supervise procedures once they are a PGY2. Procedure supervision certification is based on the number of procedures performed as outlined below. This means that any resident, regardless of PGY level, is certified to do a procedure independently and/or supervise if the below requirements are met.

Residents are certified to supervise and perform procedures independently according to the following requirements:

Arthrocentesis 3 3
Abdominal paracentesis 3 3
