• All categorical residents rotate through a Primary Care Week in between each 4 week block, for a total of 10 weeks per year, for all three years of residency.  This ACGME requirement introduces residents to a career in primary care and teaches the fundamental skills required to be successful in any Internal Medicine or subspecialty clinic.
  • Each resident functions as a Primary Care Provider for a panel of patients at either Parkland (PCIM - Parkland Center for Internal Medicine) or the VA (PRIME - Primary care Residency Internal Medicine Education) or UT Southwestern (POB - Professional Office Building).  Each ambulatory week in the 4+1 schedule consists of five half days in the resident's continuity clinic intermixed with participation in a shared practice model, population health activities, and professional/academic development. We also build study days into the +1 week, which give residents the freedom to pursue academic endeavors, go to doctors' appointments, or accomplish and other "life" tasks that were difficult to schedule during inpatient rotations.
  • During Primary Care Week, Monday afternoon is always reserved for Monday Didactics.  Monday Didactics consists of protected group learning experience.
    • Monday Didactics are a required part of the curriculum, and absences may result in being assigned Jeopardy days.
    • Please see the main calendar for the scheduled Monday Didactics activities for your year of training.
  • In order to maximize the ambulatory week, it is recommended that you supplement your education with selected reading topics (found on the website and assigned to each clinic), NEJM+, or with MKSAP questions.
