Retirement Plans
All full-time Parkland employees are required to enroll in the Retirement Income Plan (the Parkland pension plan), which is in lieu of Social Security.
The Supplemental Retirement Plan is voluntary for all Parkland employees. You can open a traditional IRA or ROTH account and contribute anywhere between 1-75% of your income to this plan.

Preliminary, Categorial, and Combined Programs
Educational Funds for Preliminary, Categorial, and Combined Program Residents
Each academic year (July – June), Internal Medicine preliminary, categorical, and combined program residents receive an educational allowance of $500 that they may use to purchase textbooks, medical software, board prep test items, or be reimbursed for their Texas Medical License fees, membership fees, etc. (See Policy for list of allowable and non-allowable items). Additionally, residents receive $500 to assist with conference travel where they are presenting their academic research.
Depending upon the resident’s preference, some trainees may elect to use all of their $1,000 towards a conference if they wish. However, please note that one may only use up to $500 on approved non-travel items.
Please note that desktop computers, cell phones, IPads, campus parking fees, immigration fees, passport fees, personal DEA license, or Dallas Area Rapid Transit passes are not reimbursable. If you arein doubt about reimbursement expenses, please check with your GME Program Coordinator before purchasing the item to ensure reimbursement.
All items that are eligible for reimbursement, must follow UTSW’s Allowable Purchase Grid located (Allowable Purchase Grid (utsouthwestern.net)) and will fall under the title “Reimbursable Via Expense Report.” Any other category that says it is permissible, must be purchased through your GME Coordinator using your $500 educational funds.
PSTP Programs
Educational Funds for Physician Scientist Training Program Residents
For residents in their first and second year of PSTP training, you are allocated $3,000 per academic year (July – June) to use towards educational expenses associated with this specific clinical research training program. Please note that you may purchase textbooks, medical software, board prep test items, or be reimbursed for their Texas Medical License fees, membership fees, etc. (See Policy for list of allowable and non-allowable items). However, if you wish to purchase electronic devices (e.g.; laptop, Ipads, etc.) with your funds, they must be purchased through your PSTP Coordinator, Mr. Jerry LeClerc, since these items become property of UT Southwestern and then are assigned to you during your training.

Other Funding Sources for Residents to Attend and Present Research
Since it is an expectation that all our trainees will be actively engaged in scholarship, please feel free to reach out to your research mentor to inquire about additional funding he/she may have in order to present your shared research at a particular conference.
Receipt Reimbursement
Submission of Receipts for Reimbursement
Beginning July 1, you may submit receipts to the in order to be reimbursed for expenses associated with your training. Please do not submit credit card bills for the items but copies of the original receipt. Additionally, please be sure to submit receipts as soon as possible since items purchased over 120 days become taxable (Expense Report – Non Travel Submitter (utsouthwestern.net)) Additionally, expenses over 6 months from the time of purchase CANNOT be reimbursed.
Meal Stipends
Parkland
At the beginning of the academic year during onboarding, all residents will receive an annual meal stipend (the amount determined by the department). The annual amount will be loaded onto their card at the beginning of the academic year. All funds on the card should be used by the end of the academic year because they do not carry over to the next year.
Card Number
Each meal card has a 5-digit number (different than the P or S employee numbers).
(Note: Numbers on the cards are not reused. Please do not share your card number with anyone).
Troubleshooting
When troubleshooting meal card issues, it is helpful if you know your meal card number.
If you lose your meal card, please stop by the Nutrition Office:
(Room 01.627.02, by the employee entrance).
Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Once you have received a new card, you will need to contact the Parkland GME Office at so that it can be loaded moving forward.
CUH
Resident overnight meal card – red RESIDENT lettering on top of the card. The number starts with 32464. The overnight meal card is only funded for your overnight calls at CUH. For additional information please contact Marie Novy at .
VA
- Meal tickets are provided for House Staff and Medical Students on call. 1 meal ticket for each night spent in the hospital over the course of the rotation will be given.
- Meal tickets ($7.00) can be picked up on the 8th floor from the VA chief on the first of each month. The VA Chief will also attempt to find you to hand these out.
- Meal tickets expire monthly. Please check the expiration date. You can use these meal tickets in the cafeteria, located in the basement of Bldg. 2, or the Patriot Store for food only, located on the 1st floor of Bldg. 2. You may also use it to purchase food at the Starbucks Coffee shop, which is adjacent to the Patriot Store.
- Only two meal tickets may be used in one day. Sharing is prohibited. Purchasing food items for guests, peers or co-workers is not permitted.
Miscellaneous Benefits
Parkland offers additional discounts on things like Home & Auto Insurance, Cell Phones and Pet Insurance.

DART passes are available to Parkland employees at a discounted rate.
Scrubs
CUH
Must wear navy blue UT Southwestern scrubs. These can either be the scrubs provided by the Internal Medicine department or via scrub machine at CUH.
University Hospitals provides proprietary scrubs for faculty, house staff, and medical and PA students practicing in clinical areas where scrubs are required at Clements, Zale Lipshy and Outpatient Surgery Center.
Scrubs are distributed through badge access at the Scrub EX Stations located in the following areas:
- Clements 2nd floor, north side surgical area (proximate to Green tower)
- Clements 3rd floor, north side surgical area (proximate to Green tower)
- Zale Lipshy Surgical area
- Outpatient Surgical Center
REQUESTING A SCRUB EX STATION ACCOUNT:

- Date of request
- Badge number (6 digit number on the back of your Parkland badge, under the magnetic strip)
- Last Name
- First Name
- Title (resident, student, faculty, etc.)
- Department
- Size (tops and bottoms do not need to be the same size, sizes range from XS to 3X)
- Supervisor: enter "N/A"
- Submit
Once the scrub request form has been submitted, your request for scrubs will be processed promptly.
Please review the following important tips for University Hospital Scrubs:
- Two credits are awarded to all users at every level.
- Follow scrub machine operating instructions posted on each machine for collecting scrubs.
- When returning scrubs, it’s important for your scrubs to be fully inserted and the door closed within 30 seconds in order to receive credit for the deposit.
- There are cameras in the return track which records items placed in the bin for return credit. Please be sure to put one item in each section (top and bottom) in order to receive your credit.
- UH scrubs run roughly a size larger than other scrubs. If you wish to change the size of the scrubs requested, it can be changed at any time directly at the machine:
- Instead of hitting the “C” button to collect your scrubs, hit “F” button and follow the prompts using the size key provided on the machine
- Do not launder or otherwise alter the scrubs in any way
- Scrubs are UH property. Please return all scrubs provided by the Scrub EX machine at the end of your rotation or at any time you no longer need scrubs.

Parkland
We do not have scrub access at Parkland this year. You may wear UTSW navy blue scrubs in and out of the hospital.
Scrubs will only be approved if residents are in an approved service at Parkland such as Cath Lab, OR’s, OB-Gyn, and Anesthesia service. Otherwise, requests for scrubs will not be approved.
