Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) Fellowship Application

Timeline

  • MyERAS token usually available in 1st week of June (approx. $115)- make sure you purchase it for the right season: the season is based on the year you are starting fellowship, not the year you are applying.
  • Start filling out MyERAS application (similar to residency)
  • Fill in the CV: Start thinking of material early

Materials needed

  • MSPE and Transcript – requires coordination with medical school of graduation - you might be able to arrange direct upload by your medical school using MIDUS in the EFDO (ERAS Fellowships Documents Office) portal.
  • Release USMLE transcript (costs approximately $80)
  • Professional looking photograph - email for a copy of your Resident composite photo.
  • Letters of Recommendation - most programs want 1 PD/Chair LOR and 3 specialty LORs. Dr. Kazi and Dr. Wang write a combined LOR for everyone. Dr. Kazi will reach out with instructions for formatting this LOR. Getting the 3 other LORs is up to you. You can start asking your letter writers to start writing in April- May. Once ERAS opens, you will need to use the letter request form in the LOR portal- email the PDF requests created to faculty who will use the instructions and unique code to upload letters. This can take 7-10 days toward the end so try to stay on top of this.
Some attendings want a copy of your CV and PS when writing a LOR-- another reason to work on your CV and PS early.
  • Personal statement - start early, run it by mentors, Dr. Rohatgi’s amazing lecture (5/4/21 in noon conference recordings)

Select and save programs - assign LORs/PS to each program once everything is uploaded in myERAS.

How much will it cost? Applications are charged by the number of programs applied to:
This is in addition to the ERAS token, NRMP registration and USMLE transcript fees (around $300 for these three fees).

Certify and submit applications: It usually opens early July. It is best to apply on time since some programs start downloading applications right away.
