  • The Cardiology Consult team consists of an attending physician, a cardiology fellow, and one resident (PGY 2 or 3)
  • The resident functions in a consult capacity for all inpatient services and the emergency department
  • The consult team is involved in the care of all hospitalized patients with an abnormal cardiac troponin level
  • There is no overnight call on the rotation
  • Each resident has one half day of clinic per week (continuity clinic)
  • Each resident is responsible for reading approximately 50 ECGs per day, under the supervision of the attending and fellow

Goals:

  1. To deliver evidence-based and compassionate consultative care for common cardiovascular conditions, including acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, valvular heart disease, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and other severe cardiovascular disorders.
  2. To provide prompt, thorough, and educational consultative services to physicians requesting consultation, learning the differences between primary and consultative care.
  3. To use noninvasive and invasive cardiovascular testing appropriately, demonstrating understanding of the risks and costs of different testing strategies.
  4. To develop skills in performance of preoperative cardiovascular assessment.
  5. To master the management of common post-operative cardiovascular complications, including atrial arrhythmias and post-operative ischemia and infarction.
  6. Become proficient with ECG interpretation
