A doctor’s spin-off of the TV show Jeopardy!, Medical Jeopardy is a quiz competition where residents are presented with medical knowledge clues in the form of answers, and must phrase their responses in the form of questions. Our residency program has a fantastic team that meets up regularly for practice sessions and participates in multiple competitions throughout the year. The residency program is very supportive and covers participant expenses for the different competitions. If you are a medical trivia enthusiast and enjoy quizzes, you should join the team! We typically hold a Friday noon conference jeopardy every 6-8 weeks.

Medical jeopardy competitions are held annually at the National ACP meeting, the Texas ACP Chapter meeting, and the Southern Regional SGIM (Society of General Internal Medicine) meeting. Among these, the most intense is the National ACP Doctor's Dilemma Competition. To participate in the national competition, each team must win their State ACP chapter competition. Up to 50 teams compete in the national competition over three grueling days and the winners are awarded the coveted Osler Cup.

Good practice questions are available at https://ddm.acponline.org. Other practice resources are MKSAP questions, flashcards, and virtual diagnoses (all available online as a part of MKSAP 19). Also keeping up with the big advances in medicine (reading NEJM, JAMA, Annals) and being part of Journal Watch (in house summaries by our own residents). So…you will technically be preparing for your Internal Medicine boards during practice sessions!

Our team has done extremely well in the past 5 years, with several wins at ACP North Texas, SGIM and finishing as semi-finalists at ACP national several times.

The ‘jeopardy year’ typically begins in October- November with Texas ACP.
